Community Energy is a vital and growing part of the renewable energy network in Wales.

In this webinar we will review the financial and grid constraints for community organisations planning to set up a renewables project, whether that be hydro, solar, wind… or hydrogen! With a focus on solutions covering Smart Local Energy System models, what is SLES? and what do projects look like?

This session will be led by Jane O’Brien and Weronika Tadrak from Ynni Teg, a community benefit society, developing community energy projects across Wales, and we will also hear from Mike Phillips of Bro Dyfi Community Renewables who recently added solar to their two wind turbines.

Jane N O’Brien MSc (Eng) Development Manager YnNi Teg has over 30 years experience working across public, private and voluntary sectors, developing a wide range of projects from concept to delivery.   This has included working with community groups for RENEW Wales, she is also a voluntary Director for Grannell Community Energy (500kW turbine) and Community Energy Pembrokeshire (900kW).

Weronika Tadrak BSc Research and Support Officer YnNi Teg.  Weronika is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Cardiff University, her research is focussed on scaling up Smart Local Energy Systems, which compliments her work for YnNi Teg – Reviewing the wider application of both existing and innovative solutions, as well as guiding the development of more complex projects to address a range of issues to better assist community organisations across Wales.

Mike Phillips has been on the voluntary management committee for BDCR for 16 years, and has overseen the development and planning stages of its wind and solar projects. He is an Environmental Planner by trade, working in the renewables sector in Wales on both large- and community-scale energy projects.
