On 29th September an impressive number of people from all denomination of churches across Wales, came together online to discuss taking action against climate change. It was a mix of background and information giving, together with real practical examples of those who had already taken action and then opportunity for discussion in smaller groups around certain topics.
Stuart Elliott – who was representing A Rocha gave us a walk-through the Eco-Church award scheme and encouraged its use as a starting point for working out where you are now and which direction to go in. There was also a presentation on how Renew Wales works and examples of types of groups and action it has supported over the years. However the highlight of the session was two case studies from churches in Swansea and St. Asaph, who detailed what action they have already taken with regards to their building, energy use, lighting etc. but also with their grounds outside and making use of the space in a more sustainable way. Following this there was an opportunity to attend 4 workshops (each one running twice) so attendees could choose more specific topics to discuss in smaller groups. The feedback has been excellent and some have already come forward for support from us – which is great news!
The recording of the session is available on Renew Wales’ YouTube channel here
