In partnership with Swansea Environmental Forum, Renew Wales organised a regional event which would bring together some local churches who are already working towards tackling climate change and being more sustainable, with others who would like to start that journey.
So, around 40 representatives gathered at Capel y Nant in Clydach, Swansea from nearby and as far away as Abertillery and Cardiff for a morning of sharing information, ideas and experiences. There were presentations on the work of Renew Wales and how the Eco-Church Award Scheme operates. There are many chapels and churches who have registered with the scheme but have not taken any action yet and so 3 further presentations were made by local churches who have began that journey; St Pauls Church, Sketty, Swansea, Loughor Parish Churches, Swansea and Capel y Nant itself, who all outlined some steps they had taken on energy, waste, litter picking , making better use of their land and so on. Then it was on to more sharing of ideas, experiences and gaining some tips as four workshops took place on varying environmental aspects.
Over lunch attendees were able to continue their conversations and glean more information from each other. It was really a day about inspiring and learning from others and it was especially great to hear from two groups who Renew Wales has been supporting through the Eco-Church process.
Here are some pics too!
